I am a designer of instances moments of intense and lasting emotion, of intellectual complexity, of primal and visceral sensation.
My practice runs the spectrum from conception to realization, designing and executing experience machines total immersive environments, living sculptural objects intended to elicit and weave together phenomenological components (such as light, smell, air temperature and movement) within the viewer's intrinsic psychological machinery (fear & security; wonder & awe; calm & calamity).
The apparatus of 21st century living has rendered our cultural narratives disposable, has relegated human interaction and memory to the scrap heap of the past. Organic refuse, secondhand spiritual garbage. By scavenging and gathering the surplus the discarded objects of a society compulsively outpacing itself I seek to uncover the resident tension and hidden potentials of trunks, suitcases and furniture, building new zones for future archival spaces.
Behind each piece lies an equally immersive fictive environment that addresses the moment of collection/re-collection of one's own network of memories and imaginings through the trigger of experiential movement within the immersive environments. Interaction creates (not just notates) an experience that situates the viewer in a liminal zone of trepidation an uncomfortable meditative state that forces the viewer to develop new senses when the old ones fail, recycling theories of the self to a new narrative.
